Amputees Across America Ride 2010
What: Amputees Across America, a group of five amputees, is making their ninth annual transcontinental bike ride. From June 2 through July 26, the riders will visit 20 HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospitals across the nation to increase public awareness of amputees as people with active lifestyles.
Where: Amputees Across America will visit HealthSouth Scottsdale Rehabilitation Hospital located at 9630 East Shea Blvd.

No Cost Stroke Screenings Available!

HealthSouth Scottsdale Rehabilitation is hosting multiple Moments for Living events and offering no cost multi-disciplinary spasticity screenings by its clinical team. At the events, participants will be evaluated for many of the latest rehabilitation technologies designed to manage the symptoms of stroke including: Bioness, Saeboflex, Nova Vision, VitalStim and the AutoAmbulator.

Wheelchair and Seating Clinic

HealthSouth Scottsdale is offering a monthly seating clinic assessment for maintenance, cushions, mobility, comfort, skin breakdown and pressure sores. Services include equipment trials, pressure mapping, wheelchair assessment / evaluation and individualized postural assessments.

September Adopt-A-Road Pick-up

HealthSouth Scottsdale is kicking off National Rehabilitation Week by helping to beautify the city of Scottsdale. 

HealthSouth Scottsdale has adopted 96th Street between Shea Boulevard and Cactus Road. Come join us Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 a.m. for this community event.  We will meet on the West side of the hospital at the "Outpatient Entrance".  All trash pick-up equipment will be provided.  If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Melinda Theobald at (480) 551-5423. 

 
New Speech Therapy and Physical Programs come to HS Scottsdale

HealthSouth Scottsdale now offers Lee Silverman Voice Therapy LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG Physical Therapy programs.

LSVT LOUD or Lee Silverman Voice Treatment is a proven effective speech therapy program that restores oral communication in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) beyond what current pharmacological and surgical interventions can offer (Schultz et at., 2000).

LSVT BIG is a proven effective physical therapy treatment program that restores normal size and speed of movements in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) beyond what current pharmacological and surgical interventions can offer (Farley et al., 2005).

Send Hunger Packing- Summer Food Drive - July 1st - August 31st - 2010

HealthSouth Scottsdale is partnering with St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance to help Send Hunger Packing this summer.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Arizona children do not get enough food to eat? One in every 12 seniors in Arizona lives in poverty.

HealthSouth Scottsdale is collecting non-perishable food items and tax deductible cash donations to help our community in need.

Collection bins are located in our main lobby off Shea Blvd., at the nurse’s station, and at the outpatient entrance on the west side of the hospital.
Suggested items include; peanut butter, tuna, canned vegetables, fruit, rice, pasta and beans.

Amputees Across America 2010

HealthSouth Scottsdale welcomed the cycling team from Amputees Across America on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.  The team of inspirational bicycle riders stopped our hospital and visited patients and staff before continuing their ride across the United States to help increase public awareness of amputees as active participants in high-intensity activities, such as bicycling . 

Vice Mayor Suzanne Klapp was present to help welcome the riders along with musical entertainment provided by Kellie and Larry Hartstein of  Harts Home.

We wish this terrific team of riders a safe journey to their final destination of Vero Beach, Florida!
