Richard W. Schulz
Chief Executive Officer
With a background in hospital finance, Richard has spent more than 17 years in the health care arena. He graduated from George Mason University with a bachelor’s degree in public administration. He was a chief financial officer for four years before becoming a chief executive officer for HealthSouth in 2002. He is an active member of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association. He is chairman of the Rehabilitation Providers Sub-committee for the State of Arizona.

Beth Verheyden, RN,MSN,MBA,CRRN
Director of Nursing
Beth has been a rehabilitation nurse for more than 16 years and acheived her Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) 14 years ago. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1993 from Bellin College of Nursing in Green Bay, WI and master's degree in nursing and master's of business administration from the University of Phoenix in 2008. She has experience in all aspects of rehabilitation, including acute, sub-acute and outpatient settings. She is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN), has presented on many rehabilitation topics at state conferences and has been an instructor for the CRRN preparation course.

Cathy Joseph OTR/L
Director of Therapy Operations
Cathy Joseph has been with HealthSouth since 1997. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in occupational therapy. She has worked in Kentucky, Indiana, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Arizona in a variety of health care positions and settings. She considers Arizona her home and loves acute care rehabilitation.

Lisa Barrick
Controller
Lisa joined HealthSouth Scottsdale in April 2007. Lisa graduated from Arizona State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She was an audit manager for seven years with Deloitte & Touche and has more than 15 years of controller experience.

Liz Ufnal
Director of Marketing Operations

Liz has 33 years of healthcare experience beginning her career in nursing in 1976 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.  Liz joined HealthSouth in 2001 as a rehab liaison marketing the Phoenix, Mesa, and Northern Arizona hospitals.  Recently promoted to Director of Marketing Operations for HealthSouth Scottsdale, Liz brings 12 years of healthcare marketing experience.


John Hogan
Director of Plant Operations
John has more than 20 years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance.  He has completed an electrical apprenticeship/journeyman in Pennsylvania and continues to pursue a degree in Computer Information Systems.  John most recently served as a chief building engineer for a multi-building, high-rise structure in the greater Phoenix area. 

Janice Overdorff, RN
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Janice has been with HealthSouth Scottsdale for seven years. She comes with more than 30 years of experience as a nurse leader in the acute care setting, 15 years of which were in quality and risk management. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and DePaul University with a master’s degree in nursing administration. She also attained a national certificate as a health care professional.

Cathy Guthrie, PHR
Director of Human Resources
Cathy is an experienced human resources generalist who hold’s a master’s degree in human resources, a PHR, and Professional in Human Resources Certification and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She has 15 years of experience in health care-related human resources. She oversees compensation, benefits, recruiting and retention, compliance, employee relations and workmen’s compensation. Her door is always open!

Keith W. Cunningham, M.D.
Medical Director
A graduate of the University of Florida, Dr. Cunningham completed his residency in internal medicine at the Oregon Healh Sciences University.  He became a member of the American College of Physicians and board certified in 1997.  He has been an active member at HealthSouth since 1999 and has served as medical staff president since 2004.  Dr. Cunningham has served on several local hospital committees and acts as an associate preceptor for medical students.  His interests include the integration of the multidisciplinary medicine rehab approach to the compromised patient to improve outcomes.
